FUEL SYSTEM
EFI TROUBLESHOOTING • Throttle stop screw tampering
Fuel Starvation / Lean Mixture • Throttle cable sticking, improperly adjusted, routed
Symptoms: Hard start or no start, bog, backfire, popping incorrectly
through intake / exhaust, hesitation, detonation, low • Faulty electrical connection
power, spark plug erosion, engine runs hot, surging, high
idle, idle speed erratic.
Symptom: Idle Too Low (if < 1100 RPM when warm).
• No fuel in tank
• Plugged air filter
• Restricted tank vent, or routed improperly
• Leaking injector (rich condition)
• Fuel lines or fuel injectors restricted
• Belt dragging
• Fuel filter plugged
• Throttle stop screw tampering
• Fuel pump inoperative
Symptom: Erratic Idle.
• Air leak in system 4
• Intake air leak (throttle shaft, intake ducts, air box • Throttle cable incorrectly adjusted

Rich Mixture • TMAP damaged (check with Digital Wrench®)
Symptoms: Fouls spark plugs, black, sooty exhaust • Tight valves (low compression or high leakdown)
smoke, rough idle, poor fuel economy, engine runs • Ignition timing incorrect
rough/ misses, poor performance, bog, engine loads up,
backfire. • Belt dragging
• Dirty air filter
• Air intake restricted (inspect intake duct)
• High percentage of cylinder leakdown (worn engine)
• Air filter dirty/plugged
• Low compression (worn engine)
• Poor fuel quality (old fuel)
• Spark plug(s) fouled
• Fouled spark plug
• Spark plug wires loose or worn
• Injector failure
• Faulty electrical connection
Poor Idle
Symptom: Idle Too High (if > 1400 RPM when warm).
