STEERING / CONTROLS
TIE ROD END/STEERING INSPECTION • Refer to the Body/Steering Chapter 5 or Final Drive
Chapter 7 for service procedures.
• To check for play in the tie rod end, grasp the steering
tie rod, pull in all directions feeling for movement.
• Repeat inspection for inner tie rod end on steering FRONT SUSPENSION 2
post.
Compress and release front suspension. Damping
should be smooth throughout the range of travel.
Check all front suspension components for wear or
damage.
Inspect front strut cartridges for leakage.
SUSPENSION SPRING PRELOAD
ADJUSTMENT
The shock absorber springs are adjustable. Rotate the
adjuster cam q either direction to increase or decrease
spring tension. Always adjust both left and right sides
equally.
• Replace any worn steering components. Steering
should move freely through entire range of travel
without binding.
• Elevate front end of machine so front wheels are off
the ground. Check for any looseness in front hub /
wheel assembly by grasping the tire firmly at top and
bottom first, and then at front and rear. Try to move the
wheel and hub by pushing inward and pulling outward.
WARNING
Use caution when raising the machine off the ground. If
the machine is not properly raised and supported,
serious injury or death could result from the machine
coming off the supports or hoist. Always follow the Vehicle loads effect suspension spring pre-load
instructions of the equipment being used and ensure it requirements. Use Spanner Wrench (PN 2870872) to

• If abnormal movement is detected, inspect the hub and
wheel assembly to determine the cause ( possible
loose wheel nuts or loose front hub components).
