ENGINE / COOLING SYSTEM
CYLINDER INSTALLATION 9. Hold the cylinder in place and rotate the engine and
position the piston at TDC.
1. Clean base gasket sealing surface on cylinder and
crankcase to remove all oil, grease, or old sealant. NOTE
2. Install a new base gasket. If cam chain and flywheel are installed (top end work
only is being performed) hold cam chain tight while

3. Slide a commercially available Piston Support Block
under piston skirt to support piston during cylinder CYLINDER HEAD IDENTIFICATION
installation.

NOTE
2015 and Prior Cylinder Head q.
4. Apply clean engine oil to cylinder bore and bottom
tapered portion of cylinder sleeve.
5. Verify all ring end gaps are correctly located on
piston. Place cam chain and guides in alignment with
chain room.
6. Carefully compress rings with fingers or
commercially available spring compression tool and NOTE
install cylinder with a slight front to back rocking 2016 to Current Cylinder Head w.
motion until all rings are captive in cylinder and past
the taper of the sleeve.
7. Remove support block and ring compressor.
8. Push cylinder downward until fully seated on base
gasket.
