CAMSHAFT / CARRIER REMOVAL 6. Attach a hook or other tool to the camshaft chain to
prevent it from dropping down into the engine.
NOTE
7. Remove the camshaft carrier fasteners.
The camshafts can be removed with the engine
installed in the chassis.

Camshaft Carrier Removal
1. Remove the valve cover assembly (Refer to “Valve
Cover Removal”, page 3.41).
2. Rotate the crankshaft so the piston is at Top Dead
Center (TDC) on the compression stroke and
camshaft lobes are facing out from center.
NOTE
To verify TDC, see: SETTING TDC (TOP-DEAD-
CENTER), page 3.40.

3. Remove the cam chain tensioner q from the
cylinder. Replace the gasket w upon reassembly. 8. Remove the camshaft carrier assembly from the
cylinder head.

4. Install PA-51430 Camshaft Sprocket Tool e on the
intake camshaft sprocket and remove the intake
camshaft sprocket bolt.

5. Remove the intake camshaft gear from the intake
camshaft.
