                ELECTRICAL SERVICE NOTES TROUBLESHOOTING
Keep the following notes in mind when diagnosing an No Spark, Weak or Intermittent Spark
                electrical problem:
                                                                     • Spark plug gap incorrect
                • Refer to wiring diagram for stator and electrical • Fouled spark plug
component resistance specifications. • Faulty spark plug cap or poor connection to high
                • When measuring resistance of a component that has a tension lead
resistance value under 10 Ohms, remember to • Related wiring loose, disconnected, shorted or
subtract meter lead resistance from the reading. corroded
Connect the leads together and record the resistance. • Engine stop switch or ignition switch faulty
The resistance of the component is equal to tested • TRS switch mis-adjusted or faulty
value minus the lead resistance. • Wire harness or connections wet, corroded or broken
                • Become familiar with the operation of your meter. Be • Poor ignition coil ground
sure leads are in the proper jack for the test being • Incorrect wiring after repair (inspect color coding in
performed (i.e. 10Ajack for current readings). Refer to connectors, etc.)
the Owner’s manual included with your meter for more • Faulty ignition coil windings (measure resistance of
                  information. primary and secondary)
                • Voltage, amperage, and resistance values included in • Sheared flywheel key
this manual are obtained with a Fluke® 77 Digital • Flywheel Loose or damaged
Multimeter (PV-43568). This meter is used for when • Excessive crankshaft runout - should not exceed
diagnosing electrical problems. Readings obtained .0024”
with other meters may differ. • Faulty ECU
                • Pay attention to the prefix on the multimeter reading • Faulty CPS
(K, M, etc.) and the position of the decimal point. • Low Battery
                • For resistance readings, isolate the component to be
tested. Disconnect it from the wiring harness or power
                  supply. EFI COMPONENT TESTING
All EFI component information and diagnostic testing
procedures are located in Chapter 4.
