BALL JOINT SERVICE (SP) 7. Separate the upper ball joint from the bearing carrier
using PA-51600.
SERVICE PREPARATION

NOTE
Do not reuse a ball joint if it has been removed. If
removed, it must be replaced. Use this removal
procedure only when replacing the ball joint.
Ball joint tool PU-50506 will allow the upper and lower
ball joints to be replaced with the A-arm installed on the
vehicle.

8. Proceed to Ball Joint Removal or if servicing the
lower Ball joint proceed to Lower Ball Joint
Removal
Service Preparation for Lower Ball Joint Removal
NOTE
Service Preparation for Upper Ball Joint Removal must
be performed to service the lower ball joint.

q Press Asm. e Spacer 1. Once the upper ball joint has been separated from
the bearing carrier remove the half-shaft.
w Removal Adapter r Installation Adapter 2. Remove the Cotter pin from the lower ball joint.

3. Remove the castle nut and washer.
NOTE 4. Proceed to Ball Joint Removal. 8
The A-arm does not need to be removed to perform this
procedure if ball joint tool PU-50506 is used.
BALL JOINT REMOVAL
1. Remove the retaining ring from the ball joint.
Service Preparation for Upper Ball Joint Removal
NOTE
Service Preparation for Upper Ball Joint Removal must
be performed to service the lower ball joint.

1. Properly lift and support the vehicle by the frame.
2. Remove the appropriate front wheel.
3. Remove the shock assembly.
4. Remove the brake caliper.

NOTE
Tie the caliper to the vehicle using a tie strap or
mechanics wire. DO NOTstress on the brake line.

5. Remove the cotter pin retaining the castle nut.
6. Remove the castle nut and washer.
