FAN CONTROL CIRCUIT OPERATION FAN MOTOR CURRENT DRAW TEST
Power is supplied to the fan via the Orange/Black wire A current draw test will provide a good indication of fan
when the relay is ON. The ground path for the fan motor motor condition. A worn or damaged fan motor will draw
is through the Brown harness wire. Refer to “RELAYS” more current, which causes a reduction in blade speed
later in this chapter for more information on fan functions. and reduced cooling.

                                         CAUTION
Keep hands away from fan blades during operation.
                             Serious personal injury could result.

                                         NOTE
The fan may not function or operation may be delayed if
coolant level is low or if air is trapped in the cooling
system. Be sure cooling system is full and purged of air.
Refer to Maintenance Chapter 2 for cooling system
                                       information.

                   FAN CONTROL BYPASS TEST
                   1. Disconnect harness from coolant temperature
                       sensor on engine.
                   2. With the ATV in “Park” and with the parking brake on,
turn the ignition key and engine stop switch “ON”.
Start the engine. The fan should start running. 1. Disconnect the harness from the coolant sensor.
                   3. If the fan does not run or runs slowly, check the fan 2. Connect a DC ammeter in-line on the fan switch

fan runs with the sensor harness disconnected, but 3. Be sure fan blade is free to rotate.
