BRAKE SYSTEM
CALIPER DISASSEMBLY CALIPER INSPECTION
1. Remove brake pad adjustment set screw o. 1. Inspect caliper body for nicks, scratches or wear.
2. Push upper pad retainer pin inward and slip brake Measure bore sizes and compare to specifications.
pads q past the edge and remove from the caliper. Replace if damage is evident or if worn beyond
service limit.
3. Remove mount bracket w and dust boots y & u.
4. Using a hammer and a small punch, remove the MEASUREMENT
piston t from the caliper body i. Remove the
square O-rings r and e from the caliper body i. Rear Caliper Piston Bore I.D.:
Standard (Left Piston Bore): 1.192″ (30.28 mm)
5. Clean the caliper body, piston, and retaining bracket Service Limit: 1.194” (30.33 mm)
a with brake cleaner or alcohol. Standard (Right Piston Bore): 1.004” (25.5 mm)
Service Limit: 1.006″ (25.55 mm)
NOTE
Be sure to clean caliper body seal grooves. 2. Inspect piston for nicks, scratches, wear or damage.
Measure diameter and replace if damaged or worn
beyond service limit.
MEASUREMENT
Rear Caliper Piston O.D.:
Standard (larger Piston): 1.188″ (30.18 mm)
Service Limit: 1.186” (30.12 mm)
Standard (Smaller Piston): 1.000” (25.4 mm)
Service Limit: 0.998″ (25.35 mm)
3. Inspect the brake disc and pads as outlined in this
chapter.
