ENGINE / COOLING SYSTEM
WATER PUMP COVER AND IMPELLER SERVICE 12. Follow this procedure in reverse to assemble the
water pump impeller and cover. Always use a new
(Stator Cover Remains on Engine)
water pump cover gasket(3). Torque all fasteners in
NOTE sequence to specification. (See Torque Sequence,
page 3.98)
The water pump cover, gasket and impeller can be
serviced with the stator cover installed on the engine. TORQUE
Water Pump Cover Fastener:
1. Allow engine and cooling system to completely cool.
9 ft-lbs (12 Nm)Torque in Sequence

2. Remove the seat, right side panel, and right footwell.
3. Disconnect the (-) negative battery cable.
4. Remove all debris and thoroughly clean water pump
area and right-hand side of engine block.
5. Remove the Center cover under the front rack.
6. Remove the pressure cap from the filler neck.
7. Completely drain cooling system and engine as
outlined in this chapter.
8. Remove the bolts q attaching the water pump cover
to the stator cover.
9. Remove the water pump cover w and water pump
cover gasket e. Discard the water pump gasket e.
10. Using an 8mm socket, remove the water pump
impeller r.
NOTE
The water pump impeller r uses reverse (LH) threads.
11. Inspect the water pump cover and impeller for
damage. Replace as necessary.
